Bristol Omnibus Services – The Green Years
This large-format, hardback book tells the story of Bristol buses from the 1940s to the 1980s, the years through which the fleet carried green livery, and was transferred from private ownership to state control.
Lavishly illustrated with almost 400 pictures, both black-and-white and colour, this book chronicles Bristol Omnibus Services, its operating territory, its vehicles and the significant events in this period. The company operated in a huge geographical area, far greater than Bristol itself. Covering the counties of Gloucestershire, Somerset, Wiltshire and beyond, it had major operating bases in Bath, Cheltenham, Gloucester, Stroud, Swindon, Trowbridge, Wells and Weston-super-Mare.
Not only a bus operator, the Bristol Tramways concern (later to be re-named Bristol Omnibus Company) was also an important bus manufacturer and this aspect of the
organisation is reflected from the point of view of the operating department.
The authors, both well known as established authorities on the company, are not only enthusiasts of many years' standing but have each held managerial positions in the region covered by the Bristol company.
This new title is not to be missed!
